The official Opening Ceremony, however, is yet to arrive. If you are wondering when and where to watch live stream, NBC is not an option. Check out below several ways to watch the million-dollar ceremony live.

Starting at 11 a.m. (EST) on Friday, an estimated 40,000 spectators and millions of viewers worldwide will be watching the much-awaited opening ceremony in Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, Russia.

Instead of a live stream, the spectacular event will be broadcast to the U.S. viewers on delay from 7:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. on NBC.

"We want to put context to it, with the full pageantry it deserves," Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group, told Variety. "We are looking to maximize the viewing experience for our audience."

With the tape-delay version, NBC will be providing more than just a simple live stream.

NBC, with its $4.3 billion U.S. rights to the Olympics through 2020, will offer full coverage of the 2014 Sochi Olympics through its site NBCOlympics.com, NBC Sports Network, MSNBC and CNBC.

U.S. viewers can find out the local TV schedule to keep a close watch of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

The UK and Canada will be offering live stream of the opening ceremonies and Olympic events through the BBC and CBC, respectively. BBC will broadcast its live coverage at 11 a.m. (EST) / 4 p.m. (GMT).  CBC's webcast too will begin at 11 a.m.,covering the opening ceremonies live.

While both stations limit their coverage to domestic viewers, a VPN (virtual private network) can grant U.S. viewers access to these networks.

TunnelBear, a desktop app for Mac and PC, lets users switch between an IP address from the UK and Canada and the real one in the U.S., acording to Forbes. ExpatShield also provides UK IP addresses, free of charge, IBTimes suggests. CyberGhost app also gives access to geo-restricted sites.
