Pat Robertson 'Miracle' Remark Suggests Miracles Happen to 'Simple, Humble' Foreigners but not Americans

Pat Robertson is in the hot water for his "miracle" remark, suggesting that Americans don't experience as many miracles as foreigners because of their views on evolution.

The controversy was trigged by a question posted on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club" Monday, when a viewer asked Pat Robertson why miracles often happen in foreign countries like in Africa, but not so much in the U.S.

"Why do amazing miracles (people raised from the dead, blind eyes open, lame people walking) happen with great frequency in places like Africa, and nowhere in the USA?" the viewer, who identified himself as Ken, asked.
"What can we do to encourage those things to happen here? Is America too far gone for miracles like this?"

The televangelist was quick to point out the possible cause.

"Those people overseas didn't go to Ivy League schools," Robertson responded.

"We're so sophisticated. We think we've got everything figured out. We know about evolution, we know about Darwin, we know about all these things that says God isn’t real. We know about all this stuff."

"In the more advanced schools, we have been inundated with skepticism and secularism," Robertson continued.

"And overseas, they're simple, humble. You tell 'em God loves 'em and they say, 'Okay, He loves me.' You say God will do miracles and they say, 'Okay, we believe Him,'" Robertson continued, though the discussion did not point out any specific events or miracles. "?

"And that's what God's looking for. That's why they have miracles," the 83-year-old minister concluded.

No doubt his statement made headlines and stirred backlash.

"Pat Robertson tells his followers that the more ignorant you are, god loves you. He might preach the bible but he really is a devil," one Twitter user commented on Robertson's remark on miracles.

"I love Jesus but Pat Robertson is an idiot. Amen," said another user.

"There are clearly miracles. Its a miracle that anyone listens to Robertson," another tweet followed suit.
