Pop singer, Katy Perry, was formerly a Gospel singer. The "Wide Awake" star was raised in a strict Christian home. However, with her Christian background and hit songs like "I Kissed A Girl" and "Ur So Gay," many have wondered how Perry views same-sex marriage.

Perry sat down with L'Uomo Vogue magazine for their July/August issue and answered a view questions.

"I believe in equality. I believe in love with no boundaries or preface. I come from a childhood where there was a lot of judgment on this subject, but I have freed myself from that," the singer said in response to President Obama's recent endorsement.

While Perry is heterosexual and recently divorced from actor, Russell Brand, she remains "open-minded" when it comes to the LGBT community.

"I hope in time we can all look back at this moment and realize it was like when we look back at the civil rights movement and were ashamed of ourselves but we're also happy that we have moved on and seen the light of equality," the singer continued saying to "Vogue."

When the singer was asked about how much of her past self--the daughter of two pastors and Gospel singer--has remained in her current image, the star insisted that her foundation is still intact.

"I'm still the same girl in a lot of ways. I still hold on to the roots and foundation of my childhood. I don't necessarily view life on the same terms as I grew up, but I still have a moral compass, and I try to live my life with integrity every day," Perry answered.

"I'm just more open and accepting and tolerant because I've seen more of the world, experienced more things and met people from all over the world who have opened my mind. Some of my questions in my faith have been answered, and there continue to be questions."

"It's an evolving journey," Perry continued to the publication.
