Carrie Underwood Reveals Favor for Same-Sex Marriage, Attends "Gay Friendly" Church

Country music star, Carrie Underwood, surprised many when she opened up about her feeling towards same-sex unions. The 28-year old star expressed in a recent interview that she could not bare being told that she could not marry someone she loved.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," the Oklahoma native said to The Independent. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

As a Christian, Underwood's church has had a great impact on how she regards this controversial issue.

"Our church is gay friendly," Underwood said. She continued to state that her church is one of several that have open doors to the homosexual community.

Underwood and husband, hockey player: Mike Fisher, fellowship at a nondenominational church. The congregation is said to have an "unconventional understanding of God's word," as The Christian Post reported.

"Above all, God wanted us to love others," Underwood shared. "It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me,' No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."

Underwood's Christian beliefs have been apart of her country music tunes. The genre is special in that it often incorporates faith. One of her greatest hits is actually titled: "Jesus, Take the Wheel."

"You have the Bible Belt-ness about it (country music)," she said in an interview with Glamour magazine.

"I'm not the first person to sing about God, Jesus, faith [or] any of that, and I won't be the last. And it won't be the last for me, either. If you don't like it, change the channel."
